Nestlé 2011: Handmade corporate gifts

Derlot worked in collaboration with Nestlé, Switzerland to create Nestlé’s 2011 corporate gift. The napkin rings are made from tagua nuts - the seed of the tagua palm tree that grows in abundance in Ecuador. When crafted, polished and dyed, the nuts are often used for beads, buttons and jewellery.

The enclosing box was made from sustainably sourced balsa wood, a light yet remarkably strong material; ideal for insulation and packaging. Whilst overseeing the design and manufacturing of the napkin rings, Derlot was also able to share design expertise with local artists.

The colourful design of the box exterior was designed by artist Paula Barragán, featuring a cocoa pod cut in half and the fragrant beans inside.
